Getting good…

After giving a quick read to this Sunday’s Archive posts, I have to admit that I think they’re starting to get rather good. We’re up to September 2006, which is my first introduction to Memphis and the beginning of running myself ragged along the I-40 and I-81 corridors beating a path between work in West Tennessee and the apartment I was still hanging onto in central Maryland. Honestly, I expected this part of the story to be more angsty, but on reflection this was still part of the good times, well before the situation there became untenable for so many of us. Most people look back on things in their past through the filter of their own memory and rely on it to pull together the salient details. Conveniently, I have my own written record of most of my adult life, jotted down more or less as the events happened, to keep my memory in check. It’s been nice remembering that there was a time down there before circumstances and a few individuals conspired to suck all the joy out of life.

Enjoy this week’s blast from the past, late September 2006.

If the historical record is to be believed, September 2006 was every bit as full of political angst as is 2012. You’d think after six years I’d have it all sorted out by now, right? Apparently not. It seems the same intra-party squabbling that makes me crazy now was alive and well back then too. For the sake of consistency, I’m glad to see it was at least making me crazy then, too. So without further introduction, step into the way back machine and have a look at what was on my mind in mid-September 2006.

The end of August (2006)…

In keeping with our new tradition, the next five archive posts from MySpace are now available for your reading enjoyment. That brings August 2006 to a close. The first couple of posts from September of that year deal with an even that was, and remains, a painful topic for the family. Between now and next Sunday, I’m going to have to make a judgement call on whether those become part of the public record here or if I save them back to my own archive. Yes, before anyone asks, I’m practicing a bit of revisionist history when these posts go live, but for the most part I’m working hard not to change the substance in any way. Most of the changes are for grammar, punctuation, and clarity. One thing I can tell you for sure is that my writing has definitely improved in the last six years. I’ll be interested to look back from 2018 and see if I can say the same about the posts I’m putting up now.

Talking to the past…

As is the normal way of things on a Sunday morning, I’ve posted five more archived posts from my defunct MySpace blog. There’s some general “what’s going on in the world” kind of nonsense, but there’s also one or two more interesting bits. I don’t remember it particularly clearly, but August 2006 must have been interesting times. Enjoy!

Sunday in the Archives…

Well, it’s Sunday again and everyone knows that means it’s time for another trip to the archives. This week we’re wrapping up the posts from July 2006. No epic rants this time around, but still an interesting glimpse into what was rattling around in my head six years ago. You’ll forgive me, I hope, if it doesn’t seem possible that it was that long ago.

Gems from the archive…

Good Sunday morning, ladies and gentlemen. Even if I have to say so myself, a couple of the “Posts from the Archive” that went up this morning are pretty awesome examples of why I started blogging in the first place. July 2006 must have been a pretty obnoxious month if the amount of ranting through the keyboard is any indication. I think two of these are probably some of my favorite posts of all time. Give it a look and I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to pick out the gems.

More posts from the old school…

Good morning and welcome to this week’s edition of Stuff Jeff Wrote Six Years Ago that it Might be Funny to Repost Here on WordPress. For your reading enjoyment this Sunday, I’ve posted another selection of MySpace original blog posts from mid-June 2006. Tomorrow we’ll get back to original content, but in the meantime, check out the new old posts here: https://jeffreytharp.com/2006/06/
